Problems

6th June 2011

Saturday evening was good.   Linda and Alastair enjoyed themselves which made my night as much as anything.  It’s been ages since we’ve had a Saturday night out so certainly made a change.

Yesterday we had a quiet day in as we were both tired and achy.   Today has been hectic.   Rick had a doctor’s appointment first thing then we went off to do our shopping.   We saw a couple of people we know from the Salvation Army in town so that delayed our time out.

This afternoon we had intended going through our kitchen but didn’t quite finish.  A canvasser came round trying to sign up people for broadband.  Rick asked to see the contract to see if true unlimited usage was being offered.  If the service was good as what we are already getting then he would have seriously considered it.  In the small print it stated a fair usage policy which means the service isn’t truly unlimited as it is capped.   Later he found out he was right that it’s capped at 40 GB a month.  Rick pointed this out to the canvasser who then became aggressive and started swearing.  This got our backs up and we both asked him not to plus Rick asked him to get out.  As the canvasser left he threatened Rick that he was going to get him.  Rick being Rick followed him out and told him to go for it.  Despite his height and size Rick is a gentle giant so would have taken whatever was chucked at him.

The canvasser ran away then came back so Rick told me to get in and get Chyna on the lead.  He then followed the canvesser down the road. Before I could get out Rick came back and as he shut the door I could see something follow him.  The canvesser had hit him on the back with a scart lead which broke and the end landed in our home.

We called the police and as we took it in turns to speak to the officer a police van arrived.  Someone else had also rung up from what we could gather.  A security guard came up to back us up about what had happened.  The police went off to see if they could find the canvesser then came back to let us know that if they found him they would be back.

Since then Rick has spoken to the company that employs the canvesser.  After several phone calls it was decided that a manager will come out to see us tomorrow to take a statement.  Rick still wants to press charges so the manager of the company has agreed to give us the name of the canvesser tomorrow.  He said if he didn’t get the name tomorrow then he would tell the police tomorrow.

The reason there has been security in the area is because filming has gone on today and will be tomorrow.  It’s for Inspector George Gently which is a 1960′s police drama set in the north of England.  There is a mock graveyard in the Memorial Park which is at the end of our street.

About Philippa

I am married to Rick and we live in a small town in County Durham. We have two dogs, a cat and two budgies. I am also an adoption survivor. In 1981 my son was born and I was then forced to surrender him. It took 23 years and reunion for my to find out that my son's adoption was legally known as a forced adoption and illegal but social workers got away with it because mothers didn't know their rights.
