had a scare

19th July 2011

Yesterday we had a scare.  Rick had an appointment with the doctor as his blood sugar levels were too high last week.  The doctor tested his blood and it was still way to high and also tested his urine which showed ketones that was too high.  He rang for an ambulance to pick Rick up from home to give us a chance to get some bits together.

Rick had his blood tested again and the sugar level was even higher which worried us even more.  While I was there swabs were taken, his blood pressure, more blood for testing, temperature taken and weight noted.  Rick’s weight has dropped about 2 1/2 stone in about a month which ties in with diabetes, has been very thirsty and been tired.  We had put it down to medication and him having a bad back which includes trapped nerves.

Since being home Rick has rung me to confirm he is diabetic and will need to take tablets and he has high cholesterol.  Although it’s been upsetting it’s been a blessing in disguise as at least we know what the problem is and we can deal with it.  From my point of view another positive is that I can lay down the law about what we eat.  I want to have a healthier diet anyway so this a good excuse for me to take over.

About Philippa

I am married to Rick and we live in a small town in County Durham. We have two dogs, a cat and two budgies. I am also an adoption survivor. In 1981 my son was born and I was then forced to surrender him. It took 23 years and reunion for my to find out that my son's adoption was legally known as a forced adoption and illegal but social workers got away with it because mothers didn't know their rights.
